Papers of Jesse Stuart, 1939-1971 (bulk 1960-1971).

The collection contains eleven letters to his friend John Wilson Townsend, Kentucky author and bookseller, emphasizing the value of their friendship, as well as discussing his political opinion of Kennedy and the election of 1960, American policy in the Middle East and Egypt, and the work of Joe Jordan and Edgar Lee Masters. The collection also contains four letters to John S. Van E. Kohn regarding first editions of Stuart's work and a letter to George Stevens of the Saturday Review of Literature regarding the copyright status of a poem "Sandy Waters" which Sydney King Russell has set to music, Nelson Eddy has sung and Schirmer is publishing. One of the letters encloses a copy of The Fathers, reprinted from Southwest Review, and another has a clipping re Stuart's wife.
